Lower Manhattan

This is where the City started in the 1600s—and where skyscrapers, financial powerhouses, cultural landmarks and gleaming new developments keep things humming in the 21st century. Its skyline is instantly recognizable and its emotional resonance undeniable.

Get there
The A, C, J, Z, 2, 3, 4 and 5 trains to Fulton Center put you in the heart of things. Other subway lines also serve the area, as do various ferries.
Go for
The history along Wall Street, the views from the top of One World Trade Center and the bargains at Century 21.
Stay for
A walk along the waterfront, a bite at an old-school steakhouse or modish chef-driven boite, and a drink on cobbled Stone Street.
Locals know
For a neighborhood of high rises, there are surprisingly many public green patches, especially over in Battery Park City.
